Planning
The Planning personnel maintain, interpret and update the long-range plan for county development. They also maintain the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) to identify the areas of floodplain in DeSoto County and administer the floodplain ordinance. They are involved in transportation planning for the county, rezoning case evaluation and subdivision and site plan review.  Click here to be linked to the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality website, where you can view the flood map panels for your area.

Building
In addition to processing building permits and conducting on-site inspections of all commercial, residential and industrial building, the Building personnel maintain licensing for all general contractors in the county and sub-contractors such as plumbers, electricians, and mechanical (heating and air) contractors. They administer the testing required for those licenses and bond all licenses.

Code Enforcement
The Code Enforcement officers investigate and process complaints regarding zoning and building code violations including violations of the litter ordinance.
