The Operations and Compliance Department supervises the upkeep and care of all county facilities.  The staff also manage the contract and services of Allied/BFI Waste Management Systems for garbage collection.  The Director of Operations and Compliance also serves as the recycling coordinator.

Allied/BFI Waste Management Systems

DeSoto County contracts with Allied/BFI Waste Management Systems to collect garbage for the citizens in the unincorporated areas.  Any complaints about BFI garbage collection should be directed to Operations and Compliance.

Rubbish

DeSoto County does not have a landfill, but non-household garbage can be taken to the Desoto County Rubbish Pit at 5255 W. Sandidge Road in Olive Branch.  The Rubbish Pit is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 7:00 to 4:00 on Saturday.  The Rubbish Pit is closed on Sundays.  The Rubbish Pit cannot accept household garbage, food containers or batteries.  Examples of acceptable rubbish are tree limbs, leaves, furniture, tires and appliances.  Each citizen can make four free visits to the Rubbish Pit per month.  After the fourth visit, $1.97/yard of rubbish will be charged.
