Couch, Youth Drug Court Judge Sammy Webb, Director 3246 Hwy 51 S., Suite 3 Hernando, MS 38632 Phone: (662) 429-1327 Fax: (662) 429-1228 Juvenile Drug Court is a 3 Phase intervention program for juveniles who are on probation and who are having difficulty staying clean and sober. It is a collaborative effort between adults in the Juvenile Drug Court, Youth Services, Public Defenders office, Youth Court Prosecutors Office, Desoto County Schools, Juvenile Detention, Desoto County Sheriff’s Department, police agencies and treatment providers. By working together, we seek to provide consistent supervision geared toward supporting and helping participants maintain a drug-free life. Drug Court involves frequent court appearances, random drug testing, individual, group and family counseling. Additionally, participants are required to be enrolled in school, GED program, a vocational program, or be employed. The court awards incentives for compliant behavior and imposes sanctions for negative behavior. An extended period of sobriety is required for graduation from Drug Court. Participants who do not comply with the Drug Court program can result in termination from the program. The Drug Court Team working with the juvenile will assist the child and family to ensure that the best interest of the child is being met.
Program Goals - To identify youthful non-violent offenders who possess a high potential for substance use, abuse, or dependency disorders and who have behavioral or family issues which clinical assessment recommends interdiction and treatment.
- To reduce substance use, abuse, or dependency and decrease delinquent behavior by conducting random drug screens.
- Provide judicial review and supervision, and requiring treatment compliance of all Drug Court Participants.
- To enhance education and productivity of participants by reducing truancy violation, decrease School related discipline incidents and require enrollment in School, GED program, vocation program, or be gainful employed .
- To strengthen family structure by providing the needed treatment in areas identified by the Treatment Provider.
