The Department of Information Systems, directed by Larry Wood, provides County government with AS/400 and Network Operations, Systems Development, Procurement of Personal Computers and Peripherals, and Technical Support.  Located in the DeSoto County Administration Building, the staff work with individual departments to ensure electronic files are protected and backed up regularly.  

AS/400 Operations
Operate and support the AS/400 and its applications; maintain all terminals and printers throughout the County departments. Evaluate new software applications. Maintain all AS/400 upgrades and backups.  Provide support for all systems and services on the AS/400. 

Network Operations
Maintain and support six sites and multiple servers on a Microsoft network. Administer network security, internet access, VPN and electronic mail for all County departments.  Schedule and record daily backups of all servers and network files.    

Systems Development
Provide programming or software to support County departments. Develop, install, modify, and maintain computerized information systems.  Provide or arrange for training in the use of all systems that the Division supports. 

Procurement
Support County departments in purchasing, installing and maintaining micro-computers, printers and networks.  Evaluate and coordinate installation and use of PCs and select application software. 

Technical Support
Install, maintain, and monitor AS/400 and personal computer operating software. Test all computer system applications for operational viability. Backup and Restore AS/400 databases and Network files.  Administer system security and County-wide electronic mail system. Provide Help-Desk for AS/400 and PC troubleshooting.
